QAS 2023 was a SUCCESS!
All time favorites including Gary and Joanie McGuffin, Cliff Jacobson, Hap Wilson, Stacie and Vince Sadowski, Kevin Callan, Jim DuFresne, and the music of Jerry Vandiver. We have new speakers such as Michael Neiger, Colleen and Jonny Kuehl, Juniper Lauren Ross, and John Chase.
With our new collaboration with the League of Michigan Bicyclists, we had sessions on gravel biking with Robert Bunnell and biking the UP with James Studinger, and more. Youth cycling was front and center with Norte Youth Cycling and 906 Adventure Team among the exhibitors. The Michigan DNR had an important announcement on e-bikes on State Trails. Many thanks to our sponsors for their support, including Williams Subaru as show sponsor; Great Lakes Paddlers, Tri County Bicycle Association with DALMAC, and Denny's Central Park Bicycles for room sponsorships; Moosejaw for show bags; and Eagle Monk Pub and Brewery for Volunteer Bandanas. Special contributing individuals include Michael Neiger, Jerry Vandiver, and Pat Harrington. Williamson Creative contributed design expertise for our program, and Veith Consulting supports our event management software as well as website.
Our Grand prize Raffle items were a huge hit. Thank you Big Bay Boards of Petoskey for the gorgeous paddle board and paddle. Thank you League of Michigan Bicyclists for working with your sponsor to bring a wonderful mountain bike with accessories from Goodspeed bike from Cyclefit Sports, BarYak accessories, Ghost Cat Bags, Widefoot accessories, and a Sub-48 Bike Tour (Pavements Ends). We had very happy winners!
We will feature more about our exhibitors as well. See the complete list. The snow kept a few away, but the exhibit space was hopping.
4-H CREATED FUN FOR OUR YOUNGER PARTICIPANTS!
Hands-on activities for youth ages 5-18 were led by Rachel Scheff for MSU Extension 4-H staff and volunteers. We had a snowstorm the night before that prevented the anticipated owl visit, so maybe we have to try again for QAS 2024. 9:00 am - 5:30 pm at the MSU Pavilion
Quiet Adventures Symposium 2023 is a wrap. In spite of the blizzard the night before, exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and attendees braved the snow banks and the slippery roads to join us.
Paddling Adventures Radio already has the Podcast Episode 368 available so you can go and share in the fun of QAS 2023 as Derek and Sean interview Kevin Callan, Forest the Canoe and others. We had a full agenda of 34 speakers and many speakers, so they had a lot of talent to interview. Here is the schedule of speakers. For more information on each speaker and their talk, visit here and select their name.
We know that the weather prevented many from attending the event and hope that you will all join us next year. We will be sending out surveys to get your feedback on what to improve and what went really well for all of you.
If you enjoyed this event and would like to be more involved in the next one, please make sure that you answer the forthcoming survey or just contact us directly at info@quietwatersociety.org . We are also looking for enthusiastic members for the Board of Directors.
